Latinos For A Better Future Applauds House Passage of the Build Back Better Act
Coalition of 170 Latino Organizations Urges Senate to Swiftly Pass this Landmark Legislation
Washington — Latinos For A Better Future, a national coalition of 170 Latino organizations, applauds the House passage of the Build Back Better Act and its inclusion of key Latino priorities. The bill addresses many pressing needs of the Latino community by creating good-paying green jobs, lowering costs for working families, increasing access to healthcare for many, addressing climate change, ensuring access to quality education, and promoting fair treatment of immigrants and essential workers.
The growth of the Latino population and electorate is reshaping U.S. politics and the democratic process. With projections indicating Latinos will make up close to 30% of the U.S. population by 2050, our country’s future success and economic growth rests largely on the economic, social, and civic success of all Latino communities.
The following is a statement from the Latinos For A Better Future coalition leader Frankie Miranda, President and CEO of Hispanic Federation:
“We launched this initiative with the goal of ensuring Latino priorities were included in the Build Back Better Act, so that hard working Latinos across the country and in Puerto Rico received the support and care they needed. Today, that goal is one step closer to being accomplished.
The Build Back Better Act that the House passed will help American Latino families succeed in the 21st century, creating funding for critical programs across the country, including those in Puerto Rico. Latinos in both the states and Puerto Rico have made enormous, historical contributions to the US. Now, the time has finally come for the country to give back by addressing some of the outstanding challenges facing our community, particularly in the areas of healthcare, immigration, education, climate change, jobs, and the economy.
We urge swift passage in the Senate as the Build Back Better Act will not only transform the lives of millions of Americans, but particularly the lives of the nearly 62 million Latinos in the United States and in Puerto Rico whose economic and social progress are critical to the success and growth of our country. Now, we will keep working to see this through to the finish line.”
